The Balanced Nutrients Found In The Acai Berry
The acai fruit is a small, little fruit that is only found in the rainforests of Brazil. What makes this little berry so amazing is that it is often discovered that the acai berry has a few of the highest antioxidant and anthocyanins levels of any fruit grown on Earth. The acai fruit has ten times as much antioxidant level then red grapes and twice the antioxidant levels of another powerful fruit, the blueberry. The acai fruit also boasts ten to thirty times the antioxidant levels of red wine.
The acai fruit is exceptionally high in two strong antioxidants called anthocyanins and flavonoids. Anthocyanin is the substance responsible for the deep red to deep purple colors of many health-promoting foods including blueberries, red grapes, purple cabbage and lastly the acai fruit. Foods that are high in anthocyanins are exceptionally nutritious and full of antioxidants.
Stress makes unstable atoms and molecules in the body that are called free radicals. A free radical can be denoted as a molecule or atom that has a single unpaired electron. An antioxidant such as anthocyanins and flavonoids will pair up the random electron and thereby neutralize the molecule. Both anthocyanins and flavonoids are powerful antioxidants that defend the body from free radicals and other stessors.
Antioxidant capacity is classified by a number referred to as an ORAC score. An ORAC score assesses the capability of a substance to neutralize free radicals in a test tube. The higher the number of the ORAC scores the stronger the antioxidant properties of the substance being evaluated. The acai fruit has an extremely high ORAC score. Most of the products made with the acai berry have maintained this high ORAC capacity.
The acai fruit is also very high in healthy fats and amino acids. Nearly half of the edible part of the acai fruit is comprised of fat and 74% of that fat is from the extremely healthy unsaturated fats that are crucial to our health, Omega 3, Omega 6 and Omega 9. The acai fruit also has 19 different amino acids, which are the building blocks of protein.
The acai berry are also comprised of an abundance of vitamins and plant sterols. Plant sterols have been proven to provide numerous health benefits and lastly, we all have been familiar with the health advantages of vitamins. The acai berry contains vitamins A, B1, B2, B3, C and E in copious amounts. It also has ample amounts of the essential minerals magnesium, calcium, potassium, copper and zinc.
Even with many of these astounding health benefits among the best things about the acai fruit is that it tastes delicious and it provides a substantial dose of fiber. Acai berry products range from dried berries to a delicious juice and even various products made from the extract. Acai berries can be used in desserts, smoothies and more.
There is ongoing research into the health benefits of the acai berry but so far the findings have been that this tiny little berry from the rainforests of Brazil offers a huge nutritional advantage to anybody who partakes.
