For deep cleaning, you will need to scrape off a layer of wood that is located on the block. Generally, you can choose to use a dull utility knife to perform this task with. Also, after the wood has been scraped off accordingly, pour a decent amount of vinegar onto its surface.
Allow the vinegar to set on the block for about five minutes and then rinse this substance off of its surface as well. Dry the butcher block off thoroughly to ensure that the wood does not contort due to the extra amount of moisture that is being applied to it.
