Have You Ever Held A Cookie Exchange?
Have you ever dreamed of having so many different cookies at Christmas and you didn’t have to bake them all yourself? Well, here’s were a Cookie Exchange comes into play. With a bit of planning ahead, you can have a great exchange with little effort.
Start by making a list of people you would like to attend. Make note on your invitation that you need a certain amount of cookies for each other guest to take home with them. I have my guests bag their cookies in 1/2 dozen per bag, this way everyone gets their fair share of all the treats. Make sure to have your guests bring extra for serving.
Start thinking of what kind of decorations you would like to use. Believe me, this is the really fun part! I’ve had many Cookie Exchanges and each year I try to come up with a new theme so that everyone is pleasantly surprised. This doesn’t have to be stressful at all. Do you have heirloom ornaments from your grandparents, use them, how about handmade ornaments that your children made in school, this makes a really family oriented setting. Everyone loves to see a warm, inviting setting, whatever you may choose.
“BINGO”! That’s what my guests love to shout out at my Cookie Exchanges. Games are an important part of the socializing that’s going on at your party. I buy little $5.00 or less prizes all year long to use at my party. Everyone loves to win a prize! Have alternate games available to play too. My favorites are of course BINGO and I also love playing Christmas music title scramble. It’s amazing what titles your guests come up with.
Be sure to ask your guests to bring a copy of their cookie recipe with them. I gather these recipes and make a small Cookie Cookbook each year to give everyone. This can be especially challenging for those you purchase their cookies, but hey, it’s about the social aspect of the evening and not necessarily the cookies. Okay, it’s about the cookies too!
Have fun at your Cookie Exchange. Be sure to taste everyone’s cookie, because after all, that’s the reason for having the party. Gather a friend or relative to help with the planning and set-up, sharing the “work” makes this even more fun for you. Bake your cookies, bag your cookies and share your cookies, your work will be rewarded with multiple treats for you and your family.
