How To Make Ice Cream Without An Ice Cream Maker
Imagine a scenario whereby it is a hot summer day, ice creams are running out everywhere because most people cannot stand the heat and the first thing that they think of is ice cream, just like you. However, those people were a step ahead of you and they bought all the ice cream in town.
NO! What are you going to do without any ice cream? And you do not have an ice cream maker as well?
Well, let’s get your hands dirty and make ice cream the traditional way!
I am kidding, it will not be messy but you will be surprised at how fun thing turns out to be.
Before you get down and enjoy your treat, you will need to prepare the necessary ingredients for your ice cream:
* cup of milk * teaspoon of vanilla * 1 tablespoon of sugar * 4 tablespoons of salt * 4 cups of crushed ice
Other materials that will help you along the way, as well as replacing your ice cream maker:
* 2 quart size zip-loc bags * 1 gallon size zip-loc freezer bag * Gloves (To handle the ice cream)
Let’s start making!
1. Pour the milk, vanilla and sugar into one of the quart size zip-loc bags and mix them well. 2. Seal the bag tightly, allowing as little air as possible to be trapped inside the bag! 3. Place this quart size zip-loc bag inside the other quart size zip-loc bag, push all the air out of the bag and seal it well. 4. Put the now 2-in-1 quart size zip-loc bag into the gallon size zip-loc freezer bag. 5. Fill the gallon size zip-loc freezer bag with ice and sprinkle the salt on top of the ice. 6. Seal the bag tightly for the last time and allowing as little air trapped inside the bag as possible. 7. Put your gloves on and start shaking the bag! Make sure the creamy mixture is surrounded by the ice. 8. After shaking the bag for 5 – 8 minutes, the ice cream is ready to be served!
Now what do you think about your splendid ice cream as you see people chasing after the ice cream van outside your house?
Fun fact about ice cream
Recall the steps when I mentioned to allow as little air trapped as possible inside the zip-loc bags? However, do you know that air is actually one of the main ingredients for ice cream? Without air, ice cream will not be as soft as what it is like today.
The reason why the zip-loc bags had to be sealed tightly is to prevent the ice and salt from leaking, or the ice and salt getting mixed with the creamy mixture. You would not want your ice cream to taste watery.
Despite that, there will still be some air trapped inside the zip-loc bags to make the ice cream taste just like the way you want it!
