Planning Your Wedding

How about we say “I, Do”

Weddings are wonderful events that bring family and friends together to celebrate two people beginning a life together. Wedding excitement begins the minute a proposal is made and accepted and continues to build until the big day arrives. The wedding and reception will be a joyous event and require careful thought and consideration. While most events seem to be carried out with ease, it isn’t always an easy task to plan and coordinate a wedding. There will be some speed bumps along the way but nothing careful planning can’t handle. It starts with a plan

It starts with a plan

If the plan is well thought out the end result of the plan will be a success. To plan a successful wedding it requires a plan. Once the initial excitement of getting married wanes a bit, it is time to get out your pad and pencil and begin formulating your wedding plans. Your basic wedding list will include something like: the desired date, location, time, church or no church, guest list, reception, honeymoon and how the heck will we pay for it. Keeping detailed notes regarding what you do plan wise will keep your plans on track and make sure no detail is left out.

It is all in the details

Once your basic plan is in place, it is time to get into the details. The first three are pretty straight forward and do not require much discussion. As for the question of church or no church. My grandmother always said even if you do not go to church, everyone should marry in the church and when you die, be buried from the church. I’m not sure she had a rule for those that attend Temple. Regarding the guest list, this could be tricky and you may find yourself generating at least two. The first list will be the absolutely have to invite list and the second will be the ones we would like to invite list. The reception will require lots of planning – location, menu, entertainment, photographer, seating, centerpieces and who is in charge of making sure everyone leaves on time so you do not get charged for another hour of hall rental. For the honeymoon – even if it is a weekend away, there will be reservations of some kind, travel tickets or a Rand McNally map, alternate transportation, packing and coordinating leaving the reception.

The Big Day

There is only so much planning you can do for a wedding. Aside from making last minutes changes the only thing left to do on the day of the wedding is to let the day commence. Proud mom and dad will delight in the wedding ceremony as will the brides maids and grooms men. Hopefully, the sun is high in the sky and the birds are singing on the day of your wedding. If not, let’s hope your planning took into account such an occurrence.

Lets party!

Wedding receptions and any party that follows are always a lot of fun. For some they are family reunions and for others they are the first meeting of a couple that will eventually marry. A lot of the times the guests can be more entertaining than anything you could ever book. If everyone behaves themselves and Aunt Sue stays away from the scotch bottle, the wedding and reception will be a wonderful and joyous occasion for all.
