Why Is The Installation Of Water Filters Important For Your Home?
Water is vital to sustain life. Did you know that nearly two thirds of your body weight is composed of water? And this is what makes drinking of water important, about 8 to 10 glasses of it everyday. But drinking just about any type isn’t enough – one should make sure it’s pure and clean. It’s what makes the use of water filters very essential for your home.
Local or municipal water treatment services can’t always put in check outbreak of contaminants in water that make it to your faucet. For many developing countries, consumption of contaminated or impure tap water is the cause of certain epidemic diseases. Some if these waterborne diseases are: diarrhea, cholera, typhoid, dysentery, amoebiasis, etc. Left untreated, your life can be in great danger.
Other than bacterial contaminants, several different poisons can make their way into your faucet. Such include pesticides, chlorine and chlorine by-products. Also, some toxic metals like mercury, aluminum, lead and others may be present. And all these are linked to several types of cancers. Some include rectal and colon cancers. Just imagine what drinking 8 to 10 glasses of contaminated water daily can lead to!
Safe-to-drink water is vital for everybody, most especially for children that are growing. They need such for the proper development of their organs and various bodily systems. Clean water plays so many roles for the maintenance of our health. It maintains normal body temperature. It helps in transporting of oxygen and nutrients in the cells. It assists in elimination of waste substances within us. And there’s plenty more!
Bottled water cannot be a practicable alternative to tap water. Each bottle can be quite expensive not because of the clean water inside it. It’s because of the total costs of bottling, packaging, shipping and marketing. Other than the steep cost, there’s also the environmental issue that needs to be considered. These plastic bottles take up precious landfill space and leak toxic chemicals into groundwater. And it takes so many years before they biodegrade.
It’s said that boiling is one way of ensuring that water can be clean and safe to drink. This is an easy way of sterilization, to kill all bacterial contaminants present. However, this may not be a practical solution at all. The cost of boiling water daily may add up and lead to higher monthly utility bills. Boiling may take only a few minutes all right, but imagine the amount of gas or electricity you need to operate the stove.
Purchasing and installing filters can be more practical than resorting to bottled water or boiling water. Basically, there are two major types of filters for your tap water. One is the type you mount in the faucet, and the other is the type you install in the plumbing system. The kind mounted on the faucet is cheaper, and requires regular replacement of certain parts. The one you install in the plumbing system may be costlier, but maintenance is not that too often.
Before you look around for water filters, it’s best first to send tap water sample to the lab. This will reveal just exactly which contaminants are present in there. Go for a carbon filtration system when organic chemicals like pesticides or chloroform are present. But it’s best to go for a reverse osmosis filtration system when organic elements like lead or iron are present.
